This is a single day documentation of the participants at Сурва / Surva Festival in Pernik, Bulgaria. The dramatic presence of ‘Kukeri’ is immediately recogniseable whether stationary or in motion, their movements are strangely animalistic, mischeivous and joyous all at once (you can also hear their clattering bells from afar). This series focuses on the people behind the Kukeri and the passion they have for the tradition.
