This series of diptychs and single documentary images was made in and around Sofia, Bulgaria - the result of multiple journeys, initially searching for moments of oddity and places that exist under the surface of the known city. Historically Sofia has been positioned geographically and politically between west and east; the influence of Ottoman, Soviet and European cultures resulted in a city with varying design and character. The most obvious evidence of these influences are left-over structures from the soviet occupation and enduring ideologies from this time that are occasionally still present within the modern sense of the city. Over time it became obvious this series was an intrinsically western perspective of architectural and sociological post-communist sentiments.
